About Me
My first dog was a Golden Retriever with whom I discovered Working Tests and won several awards. I was persuaded to have a go at Field Trials and that was the beginning of an exciting new way of life as I quickly became addicted. I won a Novice Trial with my first dog and several Open Field Trial awards. A second Golden Retriever followed and was just as successful. I then branched out into Labradors and was lucky enough to gain 28 Field Trial awards including making up a Field Trial Champion and qualified for the International Gundog League Retriever Championship three times.
Training Experience:
I have 25 yrs. teaching experience in secondary school. I specialize in 1 to 1 training for complete beginners to more advanced gundog training and problem solving. Several people who began training with me are now enjoying success in Working Tests and Field Trials. But even more people are delighted to have well behaved, obedient dogs who take great pleasure in doing what they were originally bred for.
I was one of the Gundog Club foundation trainers and helped write and trial the original grade schemes. I also ran training classes for the United Retriever Club (BC&C Area) for 5 years after which I became Working Test Secretary for the Golden Retriever Club for 5 yrs. After this I became Field Trial Secretary (Retrievers) for the Bristol & West Working Gundog Society for 7 yrs.
I have trained retrievers, spaniels and HPRs for the Gundog Club and run training sessions for various breed clubs, including the Flatcoated Retriever Society, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club and several water training days for the HPR section of the Bristol & West Working Gundog Society. I have also run training seminars in Portugal, South Africa, and Sweden.
I have judged Working Tests and Field Trials in UK and some very prestigious Champion Working Tests in Sweden, France and Italy.
